WE'RE BUILDING A HOUSE!

As part of our efforts to support the larger community that comprises Oregon wine country, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association has committed to sponsor a new home build for a local family willing to partner with the McMinnville affiliate of Habitat for Humanity on wine country's first ever Winery Build.

EXPERIENCED PARTNERS

In the aftermath of a global pandemic that illuminated widespread housing insecurity, the mission and work of Habitat for Humanity is more critical now than ever. Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from instability, stress and fear and encourages self-reliance and confidence. Habitat for Humanity's own surveys of homeowners and their families show "better financial health, parents who are more confident about meeting their family's need, and even improved grades for their children." By partnering with Habitat, we look to offer these far-reaching benefits of homeownership to a wine country family in need.

OUR PARTNERS IN BUILDING: ELIAZAR SALDANA & MARIA ANA GONZALEZ

We are so excited to introduce the family who will be living in The Home That Wine Country Built! The new homeowners will be a family of 5: parents Maria Ana Gonzalez and Eliazar Saldana, son Emiliano (8), son Hazael (6), and infant daughter Camila.

The 2-bedroom apartment where the family currently lives is small for this growing family. They have made space for the baby’s crib in the closet of the parents’ bedroom. The apartment complex is not safe enough for the young boys to play outside or to ride their bikes. The work orders to the manager can take almost a year to be addressed, so Eliazar has taken it upon himself to learn how to fix things around the apartment. We are excited for him to bring what he has learned to the Habitat construction site when he helps build his home!

The family looks forward to playing in Aspire Community Development Park and the boys have dreams of putting a trampoline in their backyard. Mom Maria Ana has told them they need to get a new piggy bank to start saving!
