HOW TO GET THE MOST FROM THE #WVCELEBRATES40 MARKETING EFFORTS

It's our birthday!! The Willamette Valley AVA is celebrating 40 years of winegrowing.

1983 was a hallmark year for a handful of pioneering winemakers in Oregon's Willamette Valley. On December 1st, the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau granted the Willamette Valley official status as an American Viticultural Area, effective January 3rd, 1984. At the time, this milestone represented a heavy lift from pioneering Willamette Valley winemaker David Adelsheim, who championed the application for AVA status. The government designation recognized the region's distinct terroir as notable for exceptional grape-growing. Since then, Oregon's Willamette Valley has built its reputation as an award-winning wine region, and continues to consistently produce some of the world's most highly decorated wines.

The Willamette Valley Wineries Association will recognize this anniversary with a year-long series of events, social media features, tastings, interviews and more. Join the celebration, and lift a glass to another 40 years of world-class winegrowing.

There is no cost for members to participate in the #wvcelebrates40 marketing promotion. Simply submit your events and special offers and they will automatically be included in our promotions via the website, email marketing, and social media.

There are multiple ways to participate in this campaign (see the inspirational flyer below). The more content you post, the more visitors you will have to your WVWA listing and your website. You can track your traffic on WV Portal under My Benefits.

Please contact Director of Membership & Partnerships, Julie Dalrymple, with any questions.

  • CREATE YOUR THROWBACK WEEKEND EVENTS & SPECIAL OFFERS. See the flyer below for inspiration.

Join member wineries across the valley in celebration of the Willamette Valley AVA's 40th Anniversary year. Lean-in to all things 1983 and bring some retro flare to your tasting room, wine flights, events, promotions, and online sales channels. SPECIAL OFFERS: Select Collateral > Special Offers.
EVENTS: Select Collateral > Calendar of Events, and select all applicable categories, including "40th Anniversary Weekend". We access your listing and event postings to populate email campaigns and social media platforms with up-do-date happenings.

Of course, any and all events & special offers are welcome (and encouraged) so don't be afraid to create more than one!

For those of us who lived the 80s, it was a critical year responsible for the introduction of pop-culture essentials like Chicken McNuggets, the Atari 5200 Gaming System, and Cabbage Patch Kids. It was the last time Baltimore won the World SeriesMichael Jackson's Billie Jean reached #1 on the Billboard Top 100, and Nicolas Cage starred in Valley Girl.

Undeniably, 1983 changed the world. 😎

So dust off those Ray-Bans, bust out that Members Only jacket, unearth your Madonna posters and party like it's 1983.

  • Use #wvcelebrates40 and @wvwines in posts on your social channels so that we can re-share and add them to our social streams. (Reminder: You must tag us @wvwines in your instagram stories for us to be able to share them!) The hashtag #wvwines is always ongoing, so use that, too.

We are especially seeking high-quality historical photos of the founding of your winery or brand, or tell the story of your founders or teams. Of course, anything from the 1980s is especially useful. Send Julie your high-quality original (not linked from Instagram) photos. Remember that authenticity is the key to great social media. Be yourself and speak for yourself.

We encourage utilizing the Oregon Wine History Archive at Linfield University to inspire your historic deep-dive and/or to just have a little fun reminiscing about the good ol' days. 😎
