FLYING WITH WINE

Bringing a taste of Willamette Valley wine country home is easier than ever with wine-friendly travel programs from Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines. And when you get home, wait at least a week before enjoying your bottles—“bottle shock” is like jet lag for wine!

ALASKA AIRLINES

Did you know that Alaska Airlines Atmos™ Rewards members may check up to one case of wine for free on any domestic flight from Eugene, Medford, Portland, Redmond, or Walla Walla, WA with their "Wine Flies Free" program?

A few tips for success: Pack your wine in a case or box that contains bubble wrap or other packaging material to protect the glass during the trip. Note that Alaska Airlines has partnered with The Wine Check™ to create special wine packaging in conjunction with the program, and Newberg Mail Room also sells wine shipping materials. Inform your customer service agent at check-in that you’re carrying wine and ask for a FRAGILE sticker. See more tips and information here.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES

Check a case of wine (12 bottles) for free when you fly from select cities on Southwest Airlines® with Sip and Ship™. No checked baggage fees or Rapid Rewards® membership required. Includes Portland International Airport (PDX) and Eugene Airport (EUG).

Pack your wine in a sturdy, leak-proof container–but don't seal it. The container must be a single box or a specialized wine suitcase. Your bottles must be placed inside a sealed, leak-proof, plastic bag with professional packaging to prevent breakage. Bring your unsealed case to the Help Desk for inspection by a Southwest Customer Service Agent.

Sip and Ship™ is available on select Southwest® flights departing from participating airports in Washington (SEA, GEG), Oregon (EUG, PDX), Idaho (BOI), or California (BUR, FAT, LAX, OAK, ONT, SNA, PSP, SMF, SAN, SFO, SJC, SBA, STS, LGB) to eligible U.S. destinations. Learn more about Sip & Ship™ here.
