Things To Do With Kids
We may be known for our adult beverages, but the Willamette Valley is a paradise for kids, too. Here are a few of our favorite kid-friendly attractions. Be sure to check out our guide to family-friendly wineries if you’re bringing your kids out tasting, and check out our Attractions and Outdoor Recreation guides.
Explore
The Willamette Valley is full of hidden gems kids will love. Take them for a ride on the historic Canby Ferry across the Willamette River, or wander through the Enchanted Forest, a Salem-area fantasy theme park with rides, attractions and performances. If you’re visiting in the fall, be sure to check out this list of family-oriented harvest festivals. And it’s hard to beat Alpacas of Oregon for a photo opportunity with wine country’s most beloved farm animals.
Swim
Summer swimming areas include bustling Sellwood Riverfront Park in Southwest Portland and the more tucked-away McKercher Park in Crawfordsville, between Salem and Eugene. Both the McMinnville Aquatic Center and North Clackamas Aquatic Park have drop-in rates (check their schedules) for an all-season indoor swim.
Hike
Don’t miss Silver Falls State Park, known as the “crown jewel” of the Oregon state parks system for its stunning waterfalls and campgrounds. Enjoy a relaxing nature walk in tranquil Molalla River State Park, right by the Canby Ferry, or challenge experienced kids with a trek up Mary’s Peak to see views all the way to the ocean. Check out our guide to campgrounds if you’re interested in making a night of it.
