WE'RE BUILDING A HOUSE!
As part of our efforts to support the larger community that comprises Oregon wine country, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association has committed to sponsor a new home build for a local family willing to partner with the McMinnville affiliate of Habitat for Humanity on wine country's first ever Winery Build.
EXPERIENCED PARTNERS
In the aftermath of a global pandemic that illuminated widespread housing insecurity, the mission and work of Habitat for Humanity is more critical now than ever. Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from instability, stress and fear and encourages self-reliance and confidence. Habitat for Humanity's own surveys of homeowners and their families show "better financial health, parents who are more confident about meeting their family's need, and even improved grades for their children." By partnering with Habitat, we look to offer these far-reaching benefits of homeownership to a wine country family in need.
GOAL MET!
$100,000 RAISED FOR THE HOME THAT WINE COUNTRY BUILT
We did it: our community and friends of the Willamette Valley across the US raised $100,000 to fund the build of The Home That Wine Country Built. Next we get to break ground, so stay tuned for updates, but first we want to thank the amazing folks who helped us raise these funds:
Ken Wright Cellars + Sixty Vines
OUR PARTNERS IN BUILDING: ELIAZAR SALDANA & MARIA ANA GONZALEZ
We are so excited to introduce the family who will be living in The Home That Wine Country Built! The new homeowners will be a family of 5: parents Maria Ana Gonzalez and Eliazar Saldana, son Emiliano (8), son Hazael (6), and infant daughter Camila.
The 2-bedroom apartment where the family currently lives is small for this growing family. They have made space for the baby’s crib in the closet of the parents’ bedroom. The apartment complex is not safe enough for the young boys to play outside or to ride their bikes. The work orders to the manager can take almost a year to be addressed, so Eliazar has taken it upon himself to learn how to fix things around the apartment. We are excited for him to bring what he has learned to the Habitat construction site when he helps build his home!
The family looks forward to playing in Aspire Community Development Park and the boys have dreams of putting a trampoline in their backyard. Mom Maria Ana has told them they need to get a new piggy bank to start saving!
$100,000 GOAL MET!
WE MADE IT! With the help of our members, a one-of-a-kind fundraising project, and two generous donations, we are thrilled to announce that we've reached our $100,000 goal!
Here's a snapshot of our efforts:
FUNDRAISING MILESTONES
PENDLETON BLANKET PRE-SALE RAISES $55,000 FOR WINERY BUILD. In 2018, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association designed a custom Pendleton blanket that honors the land, the wine, and the people of Willamette Valley wine country. In May of 2021, we released a new version of the blanket updated with the colors that saturate our landscapes during the days just before harvest, when vines are laden with nearly ripe fruit and sunrises bleed into vineyards at dawn's light. Our first fundraising campaign for the Winery Build was tied to the pre-sale of our custom wine country blanket, with a portion of sales benefiting the effort.
WILLAMETTE: THE PINOT NOIR AUCTION DONATES $25,000 TO WVWA'S HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOME BUILD. Registered trade bidders from across the country vied for the top wines from the Willamette Valley on Thursday, August 5 at the sixth annual Willamette: The Pinot Noir Auction held in-person and via live-stream online from WillaKenzie Estate in Yamhill, Oregon. The Auction celebrated the 2019 vintage with 85 lots of one-of-a-kind Pinot noir and seven Chardonnay lots from past and present Auction chairs. A portion of the Auction proceeds will also serve as the initial funding in the establishment of the Willamette Valley Wine Foundation (WVWF). The charitable recipient of the 2021 Willamette: The Pinot Noir Auction is the Home that Wine Country Built. The Home will be built in partnership with McMinnville Area Habitat for Humanity to benefit a local wine community family. A contribution from this year’s Auction will support the Willamette Valley Wineries Association’s (WVWA) $100,000 funding of this project.
KEN WRIGHT CELLARS PARTNERS WITH SIXTY VINES RESTAURANT GROUP FOR $12,000 DONATION. Ken Wright Cellars has offered a barrel of Pinot noir that was purchased by Sixty Vines Restaurants for $12,000. A progressive, wine country inspired restaurant group, Sixty Vines, acquired the Willamette Valley wine to add to its Oregon wine portfolio at all locations, nation wide. The purchase price was then generously donated to the WVWA's Home That Wine Country Built project.
