Policy Initiatives
In alignment with its mission to promote, enhance, and protect the prestige of the Willamette Valley AVA and its wines, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA) actively monitors and engages in Federal and State public policy. This work ensures members are informed, industry collaboration is strengthened, and the interests of the Willamette Valley wine community are effectively represented.
WILLAMETTE VALLEY PROTECTED GEOGRAPHIC INDICATION
The Willamette Valley wine region has been formally recognized by the European Union with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. Nearly a decade in the making, this achievement affirms the exceptional quality of Willamette Valley wines and safeguards the region’s name from misuse or fraudulent labeling throughout the EU and many other global markets. Among U.S. wine regions, only Napa Valley and the Willamette Valley hold this distinction.
WILLAMETTE VALLEY DESIGNATION ON NESTED AVA WINE LABELS
The WVWA was instrumental in shaping and implementing the labeling regulations that ensure the “Willamette Valley” designation is used accurately and consistently on wines from its nested AVAs.
COMPLIANCE WITH TTB AND OLCC LABELING REGULATIONS
To preserve the integrity of the Willamette Valley AVA and the wines produced here, the WVWA actively works to prevent labeling and advertising practices that could weaken consumer trust or diminish the region’s reputation.
